Paesaggio dell’anima – Paesaggio della vita

Multi-discipline teaching courses organized by the Galleries of Palazzo Zevallos are specifically for students and teachers at elementary, middle and high schools and have been adapted to suit the age and preparation of the students.

The teaching workshop offers analysis of the masterpieces in the collection, in particular Caravaggio's Martyrdom of Saint Ursula, leading to discovery of the codes of visual language. The starting point for this program is conception of the work as a system of signs. While artistic expression cannot be fully explained because of the emotional charge it transmits, it is however possible to attempt to discover how its language works and the efficient mechanisms of communication.

Capturing the relationships between the lines, shapes and colours which contribute to the meaning of a painting provides the instruments for interpreting any work of art in its fundamental patterns.

Kandinsky used to refer to: “the hidden soul in all things. All that is hidden lays at the base of the work of art”.
